Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know about the Face Blur.

Back to the tool

How does automatic face blur work?

Google MediaPipe face detection runs in your browser and finds faces in the photo. The tool then blurs those areas at full resolution.

What if a face is missed?

Click “Draw box” and drag over the face (or any area) to blur it by hand. Very small or turned-away faces can be missed by any detector.

Can I keep one face visible?

Yes. Click on a face box to switch its blur off, and click again to turn it back on.

Is the blur reversible?

No. The downloaded image only contains the blurred pixels, so the original face cannot be recovered from it. Use “Strong” blur or the black box for maximum privacy.

Are my photos uploaded?

No, everything happens in your browser.
