Minifying removes comments, spaces and line breaks and (for JavaScript) shortens variable names, so files download faster without changing how they work.
Is minified code safe to use in production?
Yes. Terser is used by all major build tools. Always keep your original source file for editing.
What does “mangle” mean?
Mangling renames local variables and function names to short names like a, b, c for extra savings. Global names are not changed.
Will minifying HTML break my page?
The minifier keeps the content of pre, textarea, script and style tags safe and only collapses whitespace between tags.
How much smaller will my files be?
Typically 20–60% smaller before gzip. The tool shows the exact savings and an estimate after gzip compression.
