For most homes, 25–50 Mbps download is enough for HD streaming and video calls. 100+ Mbps is great for families, 4K streaming and large downloads. For upload, 10+ Mbps is good for video calls and uploading files.
What is ping and jitter?
Ping (latency) is how long data takes to travel to a server and back, in milliseconds. Jitter is how much the ping changes. Low ping (under 30 ms) and low jitter (under 10 ms) matter most for gaming and video calls.
Why is my speed lower than my package?
WiFi signal, distance from the router, other devices using the internet, VPNs and busy evening hours all reduce speed. For the most accurate result, test on a cable or close to the router.
How much data does a speed test use?
A test uses roughly 20–150 MB depending on how fast your connection is. On mobile data, keep this in mind.
What is the difference between Mbps and MB/s?
Internet speed is measured in megabits per second (Mbps). Download managers show megabytes per second (MB/s). 1 MB/s = 8 Mbps.
